Description

CMC or Sodium carboxymethylcellulose is a food additive in the form of a white, odourless powder. Bottle of 100 gr. What is carboxymethylcellulose used for? The additive is similar to cellulose and is very soluble in water, forming slightly viscous liquids or even thick, transparent gels. That's why it's used in many ways in the food industry: - when added to sugar paste, a more resistant paste is obtained which is easier to mould; - because it forms very stable, smooth films, it is widely used as a coating agent or to fix decorations on products; - because it forms and stabilises foams, it is also used as a thickening agent for fillings in various pastries or even to prevent tartar in wine; - improves the effect of emulsifiers and prevents uncontrolled clumping or premature drying of foods, helping to extend the shelf life of certain foods (e.g. bakery products). Functions and characteristics: sodium carboxymethyl cellulose is a semi-synthetic food additive, although its components are of natural origin. The additive is obtained from cellulose, the main polysaccharide and constituent of wood and all plant structures. Sodium carboxymethyl cellulose has multiple uses, mainly as a binder and thickener, but also as a filler, source of dietary fibre, anti-caking agent and emulsifier. It is used in: dairy products, confectionery, creams, emulsified fat spreads with or without flavours, sauces, snacks, ice cream, processed and preserved fruits and vegetables, canned meat, fish, spices, soups, soups, salads, edible membranes, vegetable protein products, nutritional supplements, spices, mustard, alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages, dietary products, etc. The purity of the product meets FDA standards for use in food and pharmaceuticals. Products in which it has been used can be consumed by all religious groups, vegans and vegetarians. Food safety: In the Codex Alimentarius, the product is labelled E 466, it is considered harmless to health, but still belongs to the category of suspect E's. Maximum acceptable daily intake: The daily intake is not limited. Intake in food: Not specified. In food, E 466 can be used "quantum satis", there is no maximum limit for its use. It is used in the amounts prescribed in recipes. Side effects: Not specified. Contraindications: YES. Contraindications Description: Being very soluble, carboxymethylcellulose may be fermented in the large intestine. High concentrations may cause intestinal problems such as bloating, constipation and diarrhoea. It has a detoxifying role for the digestive tract and helps lower blood cholesterol. Suitable for children: NO. Children use description: Not permitted in foods intended for infants and young children. On the list of ingredients used, this additive must be specified as thickening/coating agent, excipient, accompanied by the indication "E 466". Sometimes also noted as cellulose gum.
